Five Items to Fall For

The air has a chill at night and the leaves are turning colors. The cider mills are bustling and kids have settled into their school routines. It’s fall in Michigan – our favorite time of year.

As you pull out your wool sweaters and leather boots, why not dress your home for fall, too? Transitioning into autumn is easy. Just add a few things that will make your house feel warm and cozy – both physically and visually.

Here are five easy items that will bring a taste of fall indoors:

fall rug

1. A Warm Rug

Wood or tile floors provide respite in the summer heat, but as the thermostat dips and furnaces start to click on, a warm rug underfoot is always welcome. This hand tufted New Zealand wool rug has a rich color and texture with a timeless paisley pattern. And its jewel tones will look gorgeous with your holiday decorations.

fall fireplace

2. A Fireplace

Warm up your home literally with a fireplace. If your home doesn’t have this architectural detail, adding a fireplace is easy. We love the Linwood Media Fireplace with its striking grey rift veneer finish. Contemporary, rustic and transitional, this piece is also convenient, with controls that turn it on and off, and adjust the flame speed and brightness.

post and rail blanket chest

3. A Blanket Chest

Snuggling up with a blanket, throw or even a Snuggie while watching TV is a common fall treat. But you don’t want your family room to look like a permanent slumber party. Tuck your blankets and throws into a gorgeous blanket chest. We love this one from the Post & Rail Collection. It’s made the way furniture was constructed hundreds of years ago when carpenters used craftsmanship and skill.

fall candles

4. Candles

The sun is setting earlier and that means many of us will soon come home to a dark home. Overhead lighting can be harsh. Instead, add illumination with candles. This beautiful set of glass candleholders has a brown marbleized finish and comes in three varying heights. Place them on your dining room or kitchen table. Or use a set on a media center or sideboard. The flicker will add visual warmth to the room.

fall bedding

5. Warm Bedding

Finally, it’s time to trade out your light coverlet with a plush, warm comforter. We love the look of this Savile Row Comforter Set. The jacquard bedding has a contemporary feel with its edgy accent pillows. The set includes a comforter, bed skirt, two euro shams, two standard shams and three accent pillows. It creates the perfect setting for sleeping in on chilly Sunday mornings.
