Ever wonder how professional housekeepers make their way through a home without missing a spot? They have a tried and true system, says Kristi Mailloux, president of Molly Maids Inc. And your spring-cleaning routine can fit into this same technique.
Start in the room that is the furthest point from the door. This is typically a bedroom. Begin your cleaning process at the right of the doorframe and move from top to bottom, left to right. Finish the room by vacuuming or mopping the floor, making your way out the door. Continue this method right down the stairs (if you have a two-story home).
In the bathroom, apply cleaning solution to the tub and shower area before you continue with the right-of-the-doorframe routine, allowing it to do its job. Save it for last. And in the kitchen, always start to the right of the stove, which is generally the messiest area in the room. Move top to bottom, left to right. Take out stove grates and soak them while you clean the rest of the kitchen.
Voila – a sparkling home from top to bottom!
