After a record-breaking winter, your patio and deck need some TLC. Give the area a renewed lease on life with these three quick steps:
1. Check your deck for raised nails that can be pounded back in and for boards that need to be replaced or refinished. If your patio has cracks, treat them with a caulk or resin. For larger cracks, consider getting your patio resurfaced.
2. Give it a good scrub. Get rid of dirt as well as fungus and mildew by scrubbing with a deck or pavement cleaner. You can make your own by mixing a cup of powdered laundry detergent to a gallon of hot water, then add 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach to kill mildew.
3. Finally, take care of the surrounding landscape. Prune nearby shrubs and trees, and remove deadwood or branches.
