Homemade Frozen Pops

Nothing’s better on a hot day than a frozen pop. You can buy a box of Popsicles, or you can make a more delicious – and healthier – version of your own. Here are two recipes we think sound great for a cool treat:

Orange Creamsicles from Oven Love Blog

  • 1 cup orange juice (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup heavy cream or full fat coconut milk
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ teaspoon orange extract
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • In a medium bowl, whisk all ingredients together.
  • Pour mixture into popsicle molds. Let set for 30-60 minutes, then add popsicle sticks. Freeze for another 4-6 hours or until frozen.
  • When you’re ready to serve, run some warm water along your popsicle mold to loosen the popsicles and serve immediately.

Fudge Popsicles from Smitten Kitchen

  • 2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips or chopped semisweet chocolate
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1¼ cups whole milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ tablespoon unsalted butter

  • In the bottom of a medium saucepan over very low heat, gently melt the chocolate chips, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Stir in sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder, milk and salt and raise heat to medium.
  • Cook mixture, stirring frequently until it thickens, between 5 and 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, add vanilla and butter and stir until combined.
  • Set aside to cool slightly then pour into popsicle molds.
  • Freeze 30 minutes, then insert popsicle sticks.
  • Freeze the rest of the way before serving.
