Did you catch the “Plain Jane” episode of HGTV’s Fixer Upper? Like all of renovations, this one was transformational, creating the ideal space for the family of four. In her blog, Joanna shares that her favorite room in the home was the dining room. It’s a special space that has so much inspiration. Here are three tips from the show you can incorporate in your home:
Look up. Joanna created a dramatic ceiling treatment that makes the smaller room feel larger. The circular design draws your eyes up, making the room feel big and bold. She also painted the ceiling a cool blue tone, which offers a nice contrast to the abundance of white trim.
Choose a statement fixture. Joanna used a brass pendant light that introduced an element of warmth to the rest of the cool tones of the room. “If you decide to install a trimmed out ceiling like this one, I’d suggest using a bold light fixture that will help complete the look of the overall design,” she writes.
Meaningful artwork. Joanna believes in telling a family’s story through home design, and she often uses personal items as artwork. “In this case, the family loves music, so we framed this antique sheet music,” she writes. Simple black frames and a white mat board let the artwork shine. “It’s simple, unique, and affordable—which is a win in my book!” writes Joanna.
