Mother’s Day Style: Kris Kardashian

Celebrity moms have style. As the matriarch of the Kardashians, Kris Kardashian is known for being outspoken and bold. Her personality is reflected in her interior style, as well, with lots of sharp contrast, statement pieces and a striking (and minimalistic) color palette. Her living room expresses who she is with a powerful display.

If you like Kris Kardashian’s style, here are three ways to bring it home.

Embrace Black and White

Black and white is the most striking combination for creating contrast, and it’s a classic look, as well. Consider black furniture for your main pieces, then lighten up the room with white details. Or do the reverse, using a white sofa and a dark rug to anchor it. Gray paint and accents marry and soften the palette.

Carefully Select Furniture

Kris Kardashian chose modern pieces that function like usable art. An asymmetric accent chair feels Art Deco, while sleek details keep things sophisticated.

Go for Bold Prints

An oversized rug in a striking graphic print makes a big statement in the room. In fact, it’s the only pattern in the space. Choose a bold piece that becomes the focal point in your room.

Mother’s Day Style: Joanna Gaines

Joanna Gaines is one of the most stylish TV moms around. Not only did she make farmhouse style the hottest look of the past few years; she put the focus of home design on telling the family’s story. Her own home reflects those same values, with an eclectic mix of personal items, old and new, that creates an inviting space for family and friends.

If you love Joanna Gaines’ style, here are three of her signature items:

Admit it. None of us knew what shiplap was before Fixer Upper. Now we all want the beautiful reclaimed wood in our homes. From walls to furniture, every room can use a little shiplap.

Vintage Maps

There’s something nostalgic and beautiful about framing and hanging vintage maps. Whether it’s from your city, your travels or your dreams, framed vintage maps add a sense of adventure to your room.

Pendant Lights

Most of Joanna’s designs include large kitchen islands, and the way to create a sense of coziness is to anchor them with statement pendant lights. Not only do pendants provide task lighting; they underscore the design of the home.

We’ve Got the Look: Katy Perry’s Mediterranean-Style Living Room

Singer Katy Perry’s performances at the Grammy and American Music Awards have been dramatic and even a bit controversial. It should be no surprise that her Hollywood Hills home – the one she once shared with now ex-husband actor Russell Brand – was over the top, too.

Katy Perry Living Room

The Mediterranean style four-bedroom home got the royal treatment with stained glass windows, coffered ceilings, a stone-wall foyer and oversized fireplaces. The grounds included a grotto-style pool, Japanese garden and babbling brook. Perry recently sold the house for $5.65 million, but if your dream is to live like a queen we’ve got the look (for a lot less). Take a look at these pieces you can pull together to create your own castle-inspired abode:

Katy Perry SofaKaty Perry Gylnallen Sofa
Start with the sofa. We offer two options that mimic the plush lines of Perry’s place. Our oversized Hudson Sofa (left) is upholstered in plush woven chenille. With thick rounded arms and accent pillows in a contrasting color and texture, it’s as comfortable as it looks. Or go more formal with our Glynallen Sofa (right). In a traditional style, it features decorative carved trim and chenille upholstered cushions. The look is made even more opulent by the combination of patterns, trim and details on its accent pillows.

Katy Perry Heidi Accent ChairKaty Perry Glynallen Accent Chair

Add more seating to the room with accent chairs. In Perry’s living room, the look is regal and refined with a combination of seating in two styles. The Heidi Chair (left) is a great choice, with its hand-carved wood arms and legs, textured fabric upholstery, and nail-head trim. Use a pair on one side of your sofa. Then add a unique chair, like our Glynallen Accent Chair (right), for another layer of style. While its lines complement the Heidi Chair, this piece will add interest with its spool-like carved legs and back, and blended upholstery choices in fabric and leather.

Katy Perry Ottoman
Instead of a traditional wood cocktail table, Perry’s room uses a plush ottoman in a butter color. We think the Cocktail Ottoman, designed by Cindy Crawford, would make a great addition. Its generous proportions provide plenty of room for a tray, and it’s large enough to be used as additional seating during large gatherings.

Katy Perry Sofa Table Katy Perry End Table
A collection of tables makes the room party-ready. Perry’s living room has a carved sofa table placed against a wall to display a favorite accent piece. Our Norcastle Sofa Table would also be perfect for this purpose. Its rich finish is enhanced by exquisite detailing and cast metal filigree, and its beveled glass top makes it practical for entertaining. Next, we incorporate an end table for more surface areas. Our Priazzo Round End Table is attractive and versatile, with curved lines and a glass top that helps lighten the feel of this rich room.

Katy Perry Floor Lamp
Finally, add a floor lamp to the room to bring in more light. The Thompson Floor Lamp has a rounded base and trimmed shade. Traditional in lines and detail, it fits perfectly with the Old World, opulent feel of this room.
